Introduction
For customers to purchase internet packages XenFi using digital payment methods such as Mobile Money, there needs to be a connection between XenFi and the payment provider processing the transaction. This is where a payment gateway comes in.
A payment gateway acts as a bridge between XenFi and your payment provider. When a customer selects an internet package and chooses to pay, the gateway helps initiate the payment request. For Mobile Money payments, for example, the customer receives a secure prompt on their phone to authorize the transaction using their Mobile Money PIN.
Once the payment is successfully processed, the payment status is communicated back to XenFi. XenFi can then confirm the purchase and provide the customer with access to the internet package they paid for, while the payment is processed through the configured payment provider for the hotspot owner.
Depending on the payment services available in your country, you can connect XenFi to a supported payment gateway that works for your business and the payment methods your customers use..
1. Why Do You Need a Payment Gateway?
A payment gateway enables XenFi to communicate with a payment provider when a customer purchases an internet package. It helps initiate the payment request, receive confirmation of a successful transaction, and allows XenFi to provide the customer with the package they have paid for.
The payment gateways available to you may vary depending on your country or location, as different payment providers support different markets and payment methods.
2. How to Set Up a Payment Gateway
To get started, log in to your XenFi dashboard and navigate to:
Settings → Payment Gateways

Here, you will find the payment gateways currently available for your location.

Note: The Agents payment gateway is used when you have a registered agent who sells vouchers on your behalf. Enabling this gateway allows the agent to process voucher sales through XenFi.
Choose the payment gateway you would like to use and click Instructions. You will be provided with a step-by-step guide showing you what is required to connect that payment provider to your XenFi account.
The setup requirements may differ between providers, so be sure to follow the instructions provided for the specific gateway you select.
Once the required information has been provided and your gateway is successfully connected, XenFi will be able to use the configured payment provider to process supported customer payments.
3. What If There Is No Payment Gateway Available for My Location?
Payment gateway availability varies by country and payment provider. If you navigate to Settings → Payment Gateways and cannot find a suitable gateway for your location, contact the XenFi Support Team.
Our team can help you understand the payment options available to you and advise you on the best way to enable customer payments for your hotspot.
Similarly, if a gateway is available but you experience difficulties during setup, contact XenFi Support for assistance.
4. Do All XenFi Users Need to Configure a Payment Gateway?
Not necessarily. For some locations, the required payment integration is already available within XenFi, meaning you can accept supported customer payments without having to configure an additional third-party payment gateway yourself.
For example, XenFi users in Uganda, Kenya already have access to the supported Mobile Money payment functionality, so no additional payment gateway setup is required to use the existing payment options.
For users in other locations, navigate to Settings → Payment Gateways to see the gateways available to you and follow the provided setup instructions.
5. What Happens After Your Gateway Is Connected?
Once your payment gateway is successfully configured, customers can use the supported payment methods when purchasing internet packages from your hotspot.
When a customer initiates a payment, the request is processed through the configured payment provider. Once the transaction is successfully authorized and confirmed, XenFi receives the payment confirmation and can provide the customer with access to the package they purchased.
This creates a smoother process for both sides: customers can conveniently pay for internet access, while hotspot owners can receive payments without manually verifying every transaction.
Conclusion
Connecting the right payment gateway is an important step toward automating payments for your hotspot business. With a supported gateway configured, your customers can conveniently pay for internet packages while XenFi and your payment provider handle the payment confirmation process.
To get started, simply navigate to Settings → Payment Gateways, select an available provider, and follow the Instructions provided.
